Chicks, Chicks, Chicks

We only have a few meat birds, which is a huge disappointment to me.  About a week ago, Nathaniel went to Tractor Supply to see if they had any meat birds in.  They didn't, but they had Polish chicks.  I'm obviously not the only one with a chick-buying problem, because now we have 6 Polish chicks.

Polish chicks have this cute fluff on their heads, which Nathaniel found irresistible.  They are really cute!

I have Lydia and Malachi to thank for the chick photo shoot.

In other news, I've been doing puzzles:

So the little boys decided to do a puzzle, too:

They are doing "circus poses" because the puzzle was a circus scene.

Building Hogwarts

Last weekend, Malachi and Pilot had their friend group over for an all-day, all-night Dungeons and Dragons session.  Elijah decided that he would rather not be in the basement, so he brought up his Hogwarts 3D puzzle.  I punched out pieces for him, and he assembled it.  It is really cool:

It took him hours, which worked out well.

Emry and Gyunay love basketball very much.  They play in our driveway every day.  After Emry's YMCA season ended, I looked at other options for him.  I found a skills class, that works on foundational basketball skills like passes, shooting, etc.  Emry was excited, and Gyunay decided to join him.

They both love it.  There are only 3 other kids in the class, so they get lots of practice in.

Malachi has had lots of concerts and had his playing judged.  Yesterday, his whole orchestra got perfect scores and a distinguished rating in large ensemble from the Kentucky Music Educators.

And this is just a cute shot of Acorn.  She's adorable and quite a bit rotten.  We love her.

Book Review - Under Fire by Lynn H. Blackburn

Under Fire by Lynn H. Blackburn is a fast-paced thriller with a very warm romance.  I enjoyed this book, and the action kept the story moving swiftly.  Readers who haven't read the previous two books may get a bit confused as to who all of the other characters are, but reading the first two is not an absolute requirement to enjoy the story.  Readers familiar with the characters will not be disappointed to see Zane and Tessa finally reveal their issues and settle into a romance.  For readers who enjoy fast paced suspense and the assurance of a romantic angle, this book is a solid choice.

I received a copy of the book from the publisher, Revell, for the purpose of writing a review, but all opinions are my own.

The Potter

Last year, Lydia took a pottery class and loved it.  We just now have been able to get her into pottery again in the evenings once a week.  When I went to sign her up, I asked Gyunay if he ever wanted to try pottery.  He jumped up and down and yelled "Yes!"  I had no idea he was so interested.  So I signed him up for the daytime class, which is for grades K-12.  He absolutely loves it.  He's already finished 2 bowls and has started a cup.  He brought home the bowls yesterday.

He made the one on the left on the wheel, and hand-built the smaller one.

He enjoyed lunch in his new bowl:

Chicks!

We got our meat birds in the mail yesterday morning, and then went to Tractor Supply for some future layers.  As usual, they are set up in the shop:

Besides the meat birds, we got 3 Wyandottes, which is a kind we've never had before.  We also added one Rhode Island Red, and 3 Isa Browns.  We threw in 5 mystery chicks, which are probably more meat birds, but no one knows for sure yet.

And we celebrated Nathaniel's birthday.  I took him to the movies last night, which is something we haven't done in years, and it was a very nice date night.  Malachi watched the boys, and they were very excited to get to watch The Black Cauldron at home.

Wiggle Puppy

Our wiggle puppy is better!

She is finally running, playing, pouncing, and wiggling again!

Also, Tractor Supply and Rural King were both out of chicks, so no new chick pictures yet, but we are preparing for a few new layers to go with our meat birds that will arrive via post office next week.  I guess we'll just have to check back.  Apparently, chicks are very popular this year!
